That moment — the forwarded video, the pointed question, the implied urgency — is the enterprise agent FOMO trap. And right now, it’s driving more AI decisions than any strategy document or risk assessment.

 

The hype cycle around AI agents in 2026 is real. Open-source frameworks, new model capabilities, and a steady stream of demos showing autonomous agents doing increasingly sophisticated things have created genuine excitement. And genuine anxiety. Because the fear of being left behind by a competitor who figured this out first is a powerful motivator — often more powerful than a measured evaluation of whether the technology is actually ready for your environment.

The problem with FOMO-driven adoption.
